He will stand trial later this year
A police officer has appeared in court charged with attacking a civilian while he was on duty.
PC 14308 Mark Knights appeared before a judge at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates’ Court to answer the allegation.
Dressed in a white shirt and black suit trousers, Knights pleaded not guilty to assault by beating.
It is alleged that on November 21 last year, Knights assaulted his victim, a local businessman, in Ambergate.
The police officer is based out of Matlock Police Station in Bank Road.
District Judge Andrew Meachin fixed the date for Knights’ trial as December 3, this year. (2020)
Neil Fawcett stood for the prosecution while Debbie Hubbard defended.
Knights was granted unconditional bail until the trial date.
Derbyshire police do not comment on court cases while they are active but confirmed that Knights was “undertaking other duties away from frontline policing” while the case was ongoing.
