TWO police officers have been accused of attacking a young girl under arrest in a police van.
They are alleged to have sprayed the youth and struck her in the head while she was handcuffed inside a police vehicle in Eastbourne.
The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) was called to investigate the claims, and says a file has been handed over to the Crown Prosecution Service.
PC Deborah Sands, 46, and PC Kris Green, 35, will appear before Brighton Magistrates’ Court on December 10th 2020.
The IOPC said: “The charges relate to an incident in Eastbourne on Tuesday, May 19 2020, when PC Sands and PC Green allegedly PAVA sprayed and struck a minor in the head when she was handcuffed inside a police vehicle after her arrest.
“Our investigation followed a referral from Sussex Police in July 2020, after the force reviewed the officers’ body-worn video of the incident.
“We completed our investigation in November and passed a file of evidence to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS), which authorised the assault charges contrary to Section 39 of the Criminal Justice Act 1988.”
