A serving Essex Police officer has been given a final written warning after he committed gross misconduct by sexually assaulting a female colleague.
PC Matthew Henderson was a student officer and drunk and off-duty at the time of the incident in September 2021.
A gross misconduct hearing was held at Chelmsford Civic Centre on Monday and Tuesday (April 11-12).
The panel, chaired by independent legally-qualified chair Karim Akbar Khan, found the allegations were proven and PC Henderson was handed a final written warning.
Deputy Chief Constable Andy Prophet said:
“The behaviour of PC Henderson was completely unacceptable. He behaved inappropriately and assaulted a female colleague whilst drunk and off-duty.
“The panel carefully considered all of the circumstances, including the views and wishes of the victim, and PC Henderson kept his job on this occasion.
“Essex Police will continue to take robust action towards anyone behaving in such a way.”
EDITOR – HAHA, “Robust action“…. like the sexual predator keeps his job. Proving sexual offences are acceptable by the police.
