A police officer has been given a written warning following a misconduct hearing which concluded on Friday, 17 July 2020.
PC Aija Rudovska, based at Central West BCU, answered allegations that her conduct amounted to a breach of the Standards of Professional Behaviour in respect of duties and responsibilities and honesty and integrity.
Between 2016 and 2017, PC Rudovska was the investigating officer in a serious assault case.
It was alleged that during the investigation, she failed to examine evidence that would have cleared the suspect.
This included failing to disclose initial first descriptions and assuring the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) that all evidence had been reviewed when it had not.
CCTV obtained during the investigation showed the suspect could not have been the person responsible. This evidence was either not properly assessed nor taken into account when deciding to arrest and/or pursue the criminal prosecution.
This led to an innocent person being arrested, charged and facing a trial. (similar case in Lancashire police)
The panel found PC Rudovska to have breached the standards of professional behaviour in respect of duties and responsibilities, but not honesty and integrity.
