Colleagues of Wayne Couzens spoke out in favour of the murderer during the sentencing hearing over the murder of Sarah Everard.
During closing remarks in the sentencing hearing, Lord Justice Fulford revealed officers had “spoken supportively” of the murderer.
It brings into question claims by Cressida Dick, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, who said all officers had been outraged by Couzens’ actions.
Speaking outside court, Dame Cressida said: “There are no words that can express the fury and overwhelming sadness that we all feel about what happened to Sarah. I am so sorry.” [ed. CROCODILE TEARS! – (Blood on your hands) ]
She added that the case and had “brought shame on the Met” and “rocked” the organisation.
Nazir Afzal, a former chief crown prosecutor, criticised officers who spoke supportively of Couzens.
He said
“Any officer who felt it was appropriate to provide a character reference after he pleaded guilty needs to be disciplined immediately for bringing the force into disrepute.
“I can’t understand why they felt it was necessary to speak in support of him.”
He added:
“Despite all those allegations of indecent exposure and his history at other forces, Wayne Couzens was a serving police officer the night he killed Sarah.
“He’s one of their own, and they need to face up to that, instead of saying they’re shocked and pretending it’s business as usual.”
What is needed for society to understand that the core of our policing is bent and corrupt .
